We are lucky enough to be Mum’s to our amazing Annabelle and Bisbee. However we had a plan that 2020 would be our year to, hopefully, start expanding our family. The reason for this post is to share an update on that because while having plans is great and all, it turns out not all plans work out. Ours aren’t.
Firstly because of unexpected news leading to Plan A not being possible.
Secondly because the world is not the world it was 3 months ago and so many things have changed.
Thirdly because infertility is now part of our story and this post will explain why a whole new plan is required.
As it is national infertility week it made sense to share this update now.
Our recent travels saw us heading Stateside and exploring the Maryland / Virginia / West Virginia area while visiting Laura’s parents. Our week long trip was jam-packed with highlights that we will share over the coming posts but to get started we wanted to give a shout out to Baltimore. Or as a Hairspray fan maybe that should be ‘Good Morning Baltimore’.
Rarely do we walk in a restaurant and instantly know that you want to come back, that was the case with Brewers Social though. We were invited to check out the newly refurbished location after it’s successful run as a pop-up in the same location.
The decor was art deco and eclectic with a strong Birmingham shout out. The seats were a mixture of leather couches, big comfy seats and standard chairs – plenty of choice and depending on when you visit plenty of options whether you are visiting for a catch up or meeting for dinner.
We were really glad to find out it is dog and children friendly too, it really ticked all our boxes!
And then there was the food…..
Welcome to The Smith Story – our little part of the internet where we will be sharing our lives, love and adventures! Some of you may have joined us at SarahplusLaura.blogspot.uk or our original blog, Spezzatura (our way), back in 2011! Or maybe you are new to us, in which case, hi there!
So why the name change and new blog?! Well, we wanted a blog name to fit in with our change in focus – our family. SarahplusLaura worked well for us as a couple, but a lot has changed since we settled on that (really creative) blog and social media name. We wanted to go self-hosted to make the space ours. We loved blogspot, we never had any issues with it, but after blogging for 8 years having our own blog domain made sense.
There are many things we love but high up on our list are:
- The city we live in – Birmingham
- Days Out
- Great Value
- Doing things together
So anything that allows us to do any of these things, or a combination of these things is something we can get behind. Buckt is one of those things!
And we can get you 50% off your first Duo Box if you use the code SARAHPLUSLAURA
Unlike straight couples there was a certain amount of additional planning that went in to us having Annabelle. In fact you can read all about it here. What that planning meant was that we had a good idea on when Annabelle would be making an appearance.
As only 4% of babies arrive on their due date we knew it was never going to be an exact science but I secretly hoped that her arrival would miss our anniversary on the 28th of June and my birthday on the 13th of July. Laura, loudly, hoped for a 4th of July baby.
As the due date drew nearer and it was confirmed that I was to have a C-Section we were given the date of the 7th of July. I could relax and Laura could give up her 4th of July plan. That was until I got a phone call moving the C-Section to the 2nd. Any relaxing went out the window and Laura decided that the 2nd was close enough to the 4th to decree that Annabelle would have a 4th of July themed parties until she told us something different.
In celebration of Pride Vuelio announced their Top 10 LGBT blog list for 2019 and we were lucky enough to be featured, again, and be invited to do a Spotlight Interview!
Have you heard of 30 days of Pride?
In case you missed that June is Pride month you will have seen plenty of rainbows appearing all over the place to remind you. From brands avatars going rainbow to shops putting out ‘Pride’ ranges, companies decorating their windows with Pride decor to employees sporting rainbow lanyards you should have spotted a rainbow or two.
Well everyday is Pride in our house and we do what we can to to show how proud we are to be part of LGBT community as often as we can. It’s a big part of why we share our lives online, we want to show our lives are normal. That love is possible whoever you are. That families are not exclusively for heterosexual couples. That we exist every month not just in Pride month.
However for Pride month we decided to record a quick video answering the questions being shared on Instagram over this month.
